The first resident of 23 Waterloo Lodge was Thomas Fry in 1857. The Fry family were an influential Dublin family who operated a factory employing over 250 people. They manufactured lace and carpets for interior of horse drawn coaches of the time.
William Fry Lieut Governor of the Isle of Man was appointed in 1919 and was a son of Thomas Fry. He was born in Dublin in 1858. He fought in the Afghan war in 1879.
